The media is reflective of the society which creates it and I don't think that we live a society that is particularly happy or at ease with itself.

Perhaps people have always been unhappy but contemporary society is not an easy place to be. The pressures placed on people are immense and I think it takes enormous strength to resistant to the continual pressures placed on us by the desire to posses more things.

Sometime in the last twenty or so years something changed and everybody now expects to be wealthy and to be able to have and do whatever they want. I think the tension between what we can actually afford and what we believe we deserve spills over into great unhappiness. For some people it spills over into crazy debt for others, anger, for others it eventually devolves into violence.

The media, as a mirror to the world, has charted the change in society and drags along all the mental stress and ambiguity with it.

Recently huge swathes of otherwise great films have lost me utterly cold as they just descend into pornographic violence - effects etc. so impressive and so extreme that they become utterly boring.

It's a shame, and there would still be a huge market for more intelligent media if distributors actually made it.

CheersJohnhttp://www.science-fictions.co.uknoreply@blogger.com
